To Run Off Bengals“Game of inches. Game of inches Womens Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys ,” Hubbard muttered a few times Sunday after the Bengals couldn’t take the measure of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton during the fourth quarter of a 31-21 loss.Bengals can't catch PanthersCHARLOTTE, N.C. _ At various times Sunday for the Bengals wide receivers it was a grinding and yet giddy afternoon that in the end amounted to a galling 31-21 loss to the Panthers. For the final 2:53 of the third quarter and the first 11:27 of the fourth the Bengals had three drives to tie it at 28 and if it wasn’t one thing it was another conspiring to make them come up empty.Postgame Quotes: Week 3 At CarolinaI think the the thing is that’s a football game we had every opportunity to get it done and finish the thing out – a lot of opportunity. We gave up too many opportunities today with the turnovers. Gave them good field position too often and they capitalized on it. We didn’t get enough. We didn’t make the ball bounce our way and create enough of that. We have to do a better job of assignment football.Quick Hits: Green Says He's OK; Panthers Run FreeA.J Green says it happened to him once in college. After he left the game on the third play of the third quarter in Sunday’s 31-21 loss to the Panthers, he said he landed awkwardly and suffered a groin injury when he couldn’t come down with a slant over the middle.Green-less Bengals Can't Catch The PanthersMaybe even more devastating is that perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green was lost early in the third quarter with a groin injury. Green tried to make a leaping catch over the middle and it looked like rookie cornerback Donte Jackson hit him early. The ball went one way and Green seemed to land awkwardly the other way. He stayed on the sidelines after he was rated probable and quickly downgraded to questionable.Bengals lament missed opportunities in loss to PanthersThe Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) didn’t appear to be hanging their heads after a 31-21 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Several Bengals players lamented the major mistakes made in the game, pointing out that they had an opportunity to win until the fourth quarter.A.J. Green talks John Ross being involved in two interceptionsOn the first, it looked like Ross could have done more to counteract a bad throw from Dalton. The second — late in the fourth quarter — seemed like both guys were at fault as the ball sailed over Ross’ head while he wasn’t even looking for it.Carolina Panthers hand Cincinnati Bengals first lossBengals QB Andy Dalton passed for 352 yards and two TDs, completing 29 of 46, but he also threw four interceptions - one on a Hail Mary on the last play of the game.NFL Week 3: Carolina Panthers defeat Cincinnati Bengals 31-21Panthers coach Ron Rivera wanted a little something more from his offense, which is why he turned to his old boss Norv Turner as the team’s new coordinator this season. Rivera, who once coached under Turner in San Diego, said he got exactly what he was hoping for Sunday. Cam Newton threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others , Christian McCaffrey racked up a career-high 184 yards rushing and Carolina handed the Cincinnati Bengals their first loss of the season 31-21 behind a well-balanced offensive attack.Joe Mixon could return for the Bengals in Week 4 despite recent knee surgeryMixon had a minor knee clean-up performed last Saturday, removing a particle that had been bothering him, which would generally put him out at least two games. However, since the Bengals had played on Thursday instead of Sunday that week, and the procedure was conducted prior to the end of the week , Mixon's timetable could be fluid.Random BytesRob Gronkowski on Lions Trade Rumor: 'I'm Not Going Anywhere Without Brady'New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is loyal to his quarterback. "Brady is my quarterback," he said of Tom Brady following Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Detroit Lions, per Chad Amaral of Fox 25 Boston. "I'm not going anywhere without Brady."Matthew Stafford, Lions Dominate Tom Brady, Patriots Behind Kerryon JohnsonThe two-time defending AFC champions fell to 1-2 with a 26-10 loss to the Detroit Lions in Sunday's interconference clash at Ford Field. Detroit is now 1-2 under head coach Matt Patricia, who was the Patriots' defensive coordinator the last six seasons.Jameis Winston of Tampa Bay Buccaneers predicted Ryan Fitzpatrick would succeed during three-game banTampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston privately predicted to team officials that fellow quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick would have the success he has to start this season, sources told ESPN.Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Sends 49ers' Dream Season to a Crashing HaltBefore Garoppolo was installed as the starter late last season, the 49ers had lost 24 of their previous 26 games. And while this team might still be better than that one, the defense is surrendering 29.7 points per game. The Niners were off to a poor start even with Garoppolo under center, and keeping up with the division-rival Los Angeles Rams and wild-card contenders elsewhere in the deep NFC was always going to be a challenge.Penalty on Clay Matthews' Textbook Hit Embroils NFL in Another Rules ControversyBe delicate. No tussling of hair. Wedgies will lead to ejections. No harsh language, finger-pointing or sarcasm aimed at them. Tickling will be a 15-yard penalty. Talking about a quarterback's momma will lead to a fine.Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas expects fine for no-shows at practiceThomas had a pair of interceptions in the Seahawks' 24-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, capping a bizarre week for the team and its All-Pro free safety. He told reporters afterward that his absences in practice were related to his continued discontent over his contract situation. While many were disappointed in Carl Lawson’s lacking sack numbers this season, his presence was known by opposing offenses. He was second on the team in pressures prior to his injury and certainly warranted enough attention to create opportunities for Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins who have combined for 13 of the team’s 21 sacks. Now that Lawson is out for the season, the Bengals should add another skilled pass rusher. Fortunately for the Bengals, one has just become available. Veteran edge-rusher Bruce Irvin was cut by the Oakland Raiders on Monday Cincinnati Bengals T-Shirt , which is inexplicable given the fact that he led the team with three sacks on the season. The Raiders have had trouble all season generating pressure without Khalil Mack, whom they traded away right before the season. Obviously, three sacks is not an out-of-this-world number through eight games, but in the two previous seasons (when playing opposite Mack) he had seven and eight sacks, respectively. Irvin, who recently turned 31, still possess excellent burst and bending ability off the edge. He’s also one of the more productive edge rushers in the past seven years.Had a franchise traded for Irvin before last week’s deadline, it would’ve been a low-risk investment with potential to boom in the short term. Now all it takes to acquire Irvin is just a waiver claim, as he will put on the waiver wire today at 4 pm EST.Adding an established veteran like Irvin is exactly the type of move a team in the playoff hunt should make to fill a void left by an in season injury. Signing him would give the Bengals a viable pass rush threat opposite Dunlap, while allowing the team to continue to use Sam Hubbard, Jordan Willis, and Michael Johnson in their current roles, and not diminishing Hubbard and Willis’ value in the long run.
